Lotuses symbolize purity, humility, and life. The reflections of the lotuses are narcissus flowers, for vanity. (Ironically Daffodils and Narcissus are the same flowers, but they mean different things... so. A single daffodil represents misfortune.)
She's also wearing some Plumerias over her right ear, which symbolizes seeking relationships, as a narcissist will always look for others to praise themselves in their lack of a sense of security. She also wears Roses on the lace on her sleeve... the deepest symbols of love, pressed against her wrists, symbolizing passion and overwhelming. And the Reflection is wearing Nightshade in her hair, which is a poisonous flower and symbolizes deception, danger, and death.
There are seven candles; seven is the number of mystery and magic, spirituality and wisdom, but also of obsession and enigmas, and aloofness.
Those cracks are small. The deeper she tries to sink, the larger the cracks will grow. Her reflection's already enraptured her.... How long will it take before it breaks completely?
If there is one thing that this artist has managed to capture, its the subtle detail of soft lighting. The soft brightness of the candle lights as they flicker gently over the scene of the female subject as she lays collapsed upon the glass lake looks excellent. The soft petals that decorate the base of the candles, also show the effects of the lighting to great effect and really entice the viewer. Various subtle details are also on display in this piece as well. The lighting perfectly kisses her smooth porcelain skin as it reflects off the glass, her boundless locks of hair dance upon the lake's surface as if they feel liberated under the warm candlelight. Unbeknown-st to her, the ominous reflection of her darker self shattering directly through the flawless surface of the glass lake as she slowly begins to wrap her gentle, yet threatening fingers around her silken, swan-like neck.
One thing that I could suggest with the composition is to perhaps try and use a sharper edged on the outlines of some of the flowers and the facial features that are in the light and lower the outline opacity in the shadows to give the lighting that extra depth that its just screaming out for.
Such a beautiful piece that shows the inner beast within our souls could be just as much as a monster as they are a saint. The sullen details upon each and every single brushstroke stands forth and entices the viewer with a grip that simply will not let go. The many curves in the character that are perfectly captured really make the piece feel unique and the color usage easily breathe life into the piece without overpowering it or seeming unbalanced. Excellent work =Sorelliena, and I look forward to many more of your pieces.
